The Delhi High Court on Monday set Gautam Navlakha, one of the five activists arrested in connection with the probe into the Bhima Koregaon violence, free. Navlakha was under house arrest, as per the orders of the Supreme Court.
Navlakha was set free after he approached the Delhi High Court citing last week's Supreme Court ruling, which said that all five activists arrested in the Bhima-Koregaon violence probe were free to approach appropriate courts for relief.
Gautam Navlakha was arrested from Delhi last month by the Pune police for suspected Maoist links.
While setting Navlakha free, the Delhi High Court also quashed a transit remand, which would have allowed the Maharashtra Police to take Navlakha to Pune. The court said Navlakha's detention has exceeded 24 hours which was ‘untenable’.
Navlakha was arrested in connection with the Elgaar Parishad event that police believe then triggered violence at the Koregaon-Bhima village.
