Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh greeted the Senior Citizens on the International Day of Older Persons, wished them a healthy, long and peaceful life. In a message Singh mentioned that older persons are repositories of wisdom and rich experience. The younger generations can learn a lot from them.

The chief minister said the society, state and nation should respect older persons and treat them with love and affection. “The blessings of elders enrich our lives and help the state in rapid progress,” he said.

The State Government had implemented major steps in ameliorating the conditions of 20-lakh elders. The Chief Minister Theerth Yatra Yojana is operating successfully since December 2012. Around two lakh senior citizens have availed of the facility of visiting religious and historic sites across the country. Pension scheme is also in operation by the Social Welfare Department.

Chief Minister said senior citizens can avail of free medical facility up to Rs 80 thousand under the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme.  Separate Senior Citizen Cell had been constituted at Police Headquarters at Atal Nagar. Singh said instructions had been issued to the hospital stating that Yellow cards should be issued to elder citizens so that they need not wait in a queue.

Singh said a conducive environment should be created at homes for elders to live in peace so that there is no need for Senior Citizens' Homes. But still 24 Senior Citizens' Homes are being operated by voluntary organizations with the assistance of the State Government.

The State Government had issued orders to the collectors stating that well-being of senior citizens is of paramount importance and health facilities are provided to them.

The Chief Minister appreciated the 'Bapu Ki Kutiya' on the premises of the Raipur Collectorate and called upon the other districts to emulate the example. The target is to establish 50 'Bapu Ki Kutiya' in various parks in the capital soon. The 'Siyaan Sadan' at Dhamtari and Durg are other good examples which can be followed in other districts.
